  • Short Range Capabilities of Berger Bullets

My son shot his firs cow elk at 15 feet with a 168 grain Berger out of a 300 wsm. Hit the thin edge of the shoulder and destroyed everything in the pump house!

      Hi Ryan,

It looks like your son made a very nice shot on a nice looking cow. How far did she go, if anywhere, when the shot hit?

        Bob, It was DRT!

My friend wife used my 300 RUM on a big cow hit her quartering away at about 80 yards with a 230 OTM. The cow didn't like it, she was also DRT.

I shot a 9pt whitetail this year at 60 yards with a 140 VLD hunting 6.5 mm doing 3150 fps. Bullet left about a 6" exit hole. Deer went 30 yards and down

I also killed an 8 pt with my 6.5-284 last year but that was at 200 yards, which isn't long range so it must be short. 6.5 VLD hunting 140 grain @ 3150 fps. Bullet left a nickel sized exit, but the lungs were destroyed inside. I will add that I always shoot for a double lung shot and there was 0 meat loss on both deer, even with the HUGE exit on the first deer.
